Let's talk food

We have been introducing more and more foods to B.  I stumbled upon a site that talks about Baby Led Weaning.  One might think weaning means to wean or stop for nursing or formula but really according to the site it means this:

"* re ‘wean’. This is meant in the Brit sense, not the American. In the UK, ‘weaning’ means ‘adding complementary foods’, whereas in the States it means ‘giving up breastfeeding’."

We have decided Brady will wean himself when ready.  The goal is to breastfeed until he is one and beyond, if that's what he wants.  But we will continue more foods as he gets older because he definitely likes to self feed.

I started brown rice cereal and purees a week before he turned 6 months old.  We did purees for a good solid 2 months and then honestly I just decided to put some cut up food on his tray one day.  He of course loved feeding himself.  Then I happened to stumble upon a blog that was doing "baby led weaning" and gave lots of food ideas.  From there I've been experimenting with all kinds of foods.  And so far, it's been great for us and kind of fun.

We try to keep food as wholesome as possible and feed organic when possible.  The area we live in does not offer a great selection of wholesome food, which drives me nuts!  I have to drive a good 25 minutes to a grocery store that offers organic fruit and veggies.  Or no added hormones to meats.  And when eating out, it's not really an option so we do the best we can but some things are just not feasible at times.  When out to eat, I try to order a chicken breast or chicken tenders for him and tear off the breading.  The other night he ate 3 whole chicken tenders and one time he ate a whole chicken breast.  He loves to eat!

Brady is a great eater (most days) and I think he really gets a kick out of feeding himself.  It does make a huge mess, but that's why we have 2 small dogs - ha!

Here are just a few things new foods we've tried recently:

Turkey meatballs with spaghetti, green peas, and roasted apples

Raw cucumber.
I just peel it, cut off a good size that he can hold and let him eat it like a pickle.

Soft, scrambled egg in coconut oil

Other foods we've tried:
 -greek yogurt with fruit
-strawberries
-chopped cherry tomatoes
-butter beans (big white beans cooked in water with ham)
-chicken strips or chicken breast (no breading and diced, roasted)
-mac and cheese
-wagon wheel pasta
  -pancakes and waffles (Van's brand)
-blueberries
-frozen mango chunks
-graham crackers
-lean brisket
-rice
-pinto beans
-white bean hummus
-whole wheat crackers
-chicken spaghetti
-pork chops (diced up)
 -roasted apples with cinammon
-roasted veggies
First time @ Chick-fil-a (grilled chicken nuggets and a fruit cup), cherry tomatoes, and first time eating hummus.

It's been fun watching him experience new foods.  And he really will eat or try anything we put in front of him.  I'm just hoping that does end soon.  I'm also hoping by giving him so much variety early on, he will continue to love food and be a good eater.

Tell me what kind of things your baby/toddler eats.  I'd love some new ideas.

Floors, Grace, Pumpkins & a crib...

Last weekend was a fun-filled one.

Friday afternoon, I got a text saying that my friend Robyn was in labor. Totally made my day!! I could not wait to meet/hold sweet Grace aka Brady's girlfriend. It was late in the afternoon so I knew Saturday we'd be making a trip into town to meet her.

Friday, when I got home from work AB & his dad were working on installing the floor in B's room. We are making progress on the nursery! Makes me so happy because I'm starting to freak out about time. I had to snap some photos of their work of labor or labor of love?

And done...yay! Looks beautiful!!

Saturday morning, we got up & headed into town. We dropped the dogs off at the groomer's and then found a little hole in the wall place to eat breakfast tacos, yum! Afterwards, we headed to the hospital to meet baby Grace & see how momma & daddy were doing. All were doing great! & Grace is just as cute as can be!

We can't wait for Grace to meet Brady!

Funny thing is...Robyn (Grace's momma) and I planned our wedding together at the same time, then when I found out we were moving to South Texas, I found out that they were also moving to South Texas. I was so excited! Then I found out Robyn was pregnant & well I happened to be pregnant too. Funny, how life works out. We are so blessed to have them close by us & I'm excited Brady will have a play-date friend :) actually he will have several, with all the friends I know having babies this fall/winter. He will actually have 2 little girlfriends :)

And I can't forget my other babies...who looked so cute when we picked them up from getting their hair did :)

Saturday afternoon, we watched the Aggies...well blow the 2nd half of the game like they did the week before. AB was not a happy camper!

Saturday evening, I had a girls night planned with teachers I work with. We went to eat at Kiko's (yum!) and then to Tipsy Canvas to paint! It was a lot of fun...just long! 7-10pm...I was falling asleep towards the end, ha! But I had so much fun & had a ton of laughs! Looking forward to going back to paint some more!

The before...
The after...
All of us

Then us with our master pieces...ha!
I thought we did pretty good. We definitely accomplished having a good time!

Sunday we visited a church with a friend who invited us to a special "church in the park" or "church without walls." The weather was great! After church, we had a hamburgers & hotdogs at the park. Then the main thing I had on my agenda for the day was getting the crib put up! So now the crib is up & ready for bedding!

This weekend I'm starting on the bedding. Can't wait to see the room all put together! & now I'm ready for another weekend...the work week is so over-rated!

Baby Update

So we've been somewhat busy preparing for baby and our house is slowing growing in the baby department. More & more baby things are starting to pop up around the house, makes it kind of surreal.

Like this little wooden rocking chair...which happens to my hubby's when he was a little boy!

& Max...an original Cabbage Patch doll! :)

One of our guest bedrooms is currently being transformed into the "nursery" - not sure if I like calling it a nursery...

Here is the current state of the room.

We have a paint color picked, a new light fixture, new flooring, & a crib!

Crib from PBK

Flooring

Fabric for bedding

I've also been busy sewing/embroidering a few things for our little man.

I have lots of burp cloths sewn by haven't embroidered them yet.

I've also been busy ordering/buying clothes for him. I am determined to have the best dressed little boy in South Texas. I mean when your momma runs a children's boutique what else would you expect?!

I love smocking!

Precious!

Aww, can't wait to see him in these!

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Time to get busy....

Sewing!!! This was delivered on my front porch today. It's the fabric for B's crib bedding. Can't wait to sew/design/create his bedding! It will truly be a labor of love ;)

In other nursery news...Allen spent last week scrapping the popcorn ceiling, sanding them, & getting the room ready to paint. All the carpet has been ripped out so after painting we will install the new flooring. We finally decided on a paint color (I think!) which was a huge undertaking seeing how Allen & I had different ideas of what the room should look like. Ha! My parents are coming this weekend & I'm hoping to make a definite color decision with the help of my mom.

Hard to believe I'll be 6 months tomorrow! We have LOTS to do before our sweet baby boy arrives!!
