Halloween 2012

So I've never been much of a Halloween person.  Not that I have anything against it, just not something I really get in to.  But let me tell you, now that I'm a mom it's a whole different ballgame.
Probably one of the best things about being a parent, is seeing the world and things through you child's eyes.  It's something I thought about before having kids, but definitely something you don't "get" until you have them.

Today was such a fun day and it brought me so much joy to see Halloween through Brady's eyes.  Yes, we celebrate Halloween but only for a fun dress up day.  It's a good, light-hearted family fun day.  Granted he really had no clue what was going on but none the less, it was still magical to me.  And I know it will only get more magical as he gets older.

We also had a fun mail day.  Mimi sent Brady a box full of clothes!  What a sweet mimi!!  Now if it would get cold, so we could enjoy them.

We started getting ready for Halloween around 5 this evening.  Daddy came home then, took a shower and started to get B. dressed and ready.  I on the other hand, waited until the last few minutes before it was time to go to embroider a trick-or-treat bag for him and   Miss Grace.  It donned on me earlier today that I had no bag for Brady's treats so while at Hobby Lobby I took care of that issue.  (I realize he technically can't eat the candy anyway but we still wanted to dress him up & take him out for the festivities)  And as one of the other moms in the our bible study said, "we clearly need the candy more than them!" ha!  I don't need it but might help calm my crazy.
Once we were all ready, we made a quick trip out to AB's parents and then to see Mrs. Sylvia, a sweet family friend.  We then raced home to wait for our good friends, Matt, Robyn, and Grace.  Grace is just over a year old and her and Brady have no choice but to be good friends.

I must say I am pretty proud of my homemade costume.  Even if I did forget the knife for his belt...

I was surprised at how well Peter kept his hat on.  Even though most people thought he was Robin Hood.

We finally made our way to our church for their trunk or treat.  It was nice because it wasn't that crowded and it was a quick trip through all the trunks.  And look at these sweet daddies with their babies...

There were some pretty creative trunks.  My favorite was a "cat lady" and a dog lady?  Grace and Brady both love to say "dog" so we let them get a free pet ;)
And I just had to get a picture of the cat lady...you can't tell from the picture but she has a bunch crawling up her legs.  And her arms and face were all scratched up (with fake scratches of course!)  They had a bunch of cat litter tubs and even had candy in a cat litter box.  It was too funny!  Pretty clever cat lady...
There was a lady with a real dog, which B. and G. loved!  Look at Brady's face...I think he is really unsure of the lady.  ha!

Afterwards, we went and had dinner.  Grace and Brady loved sitting by each other.  They tried feeding each other, shared goldfish, both raked all their food on the floor, and were just precious!  Honestly, I think they thought we were nuts dressing them up and taking them to get candy.  I'm so glad our friends joined us for a night of fun!

It was a wonderful evening and one I don't think I'll ever forget.  This is what makes life worth living...

Weekend & a Halloween Party

Our weekend was busy.  I thought it was going to be a low-key one but it was our first weekend home in a while and so we had lots on our to-do list.  We have been wanting to put flower beds in around the front of the house.  We finally got around to doing it this weekend.  Friday we went to a local nursery and picked up plants that we had picked out the day before.  Our plans Saturday was to till up the ground and go to our church's pumpkin patch.  None of those things happened.  The tiller wouldn't start and it was too cold/windy for the babes for a pumpkin patch.  Well, I had bible study today and our church has NO more pumpkins!!!  I wanted to cry!  I didn't even get one picture with Brady in the pumpkins...so sad.  And I don't think there are any other patches around that have pumpkins either.  I feel like such a bad mom.

We made a trip to Home Depot for more plants and soil.  We also stopped for lunch while out and about.

We didn't make it to church yesterday.  Honestly, I didn't get out of pajamas except for a quick trip to Wal-Mart.  It was just one of those days!

We did get the ground tilled up (thanks to our neighbor letting us borrow his) and AB got a few plants planted.  He is hoping to finish planting this evening then we'll need to add mulch and rocks around the edge.  Much added curb appeal!
Today was also a busy day for us.  We had a Halloween party this morning with some of the moms from Kindermusik.  Of course, I waited until last minute to throw B's costume together.  I've had the stuff for a few weeks now but lately sewing is the last thing I want to do.  Really all I want to do is plop on the couch these days...just being honest.  The Halloween party was hosted by "Yoda" or this little cutie, Owen.

 Cutest Peter Pan ever!

We had Peter Pan, Yoda, Superwoman, Little Red Riding Hood, Little Miss Muffet, and a zoo keeper.

Peter Pan of course found the window and "dog!"

And I completely forgot my camera.  Thank the Lord for smart phones/cameras.

Brady went straight for all the toys.  He found a CAT bulldozer that he loved.

But I do think his costume turned out pretty darn cute if I do say so myself.  I followed this how-to on how to make it.

We left straight from the party and headed to Bible study.  With making a quick stop at Chick-fil-a drive-thru for lunch.

It was a day of going with the flow.  I debated not going to the party because of risking a happy boy during bible study.  Or because I couldn't find the red feather to complete his costume.  Brady normally takes a 2 hour nap in the mornings before bible study and when he doesn't he cries for me.  Thankfully, he did just fine today in the nursery.  I sat him down and he went right to playing.  He also played really well at the Halloween party.  Makes me such a proud momma.  Amazing how much pride you get from your children from them just simply being them.  Makes me think of how my heavenly father loves me, even when I'm in rare-form.

I'm so glad I just went with it today and took Brady to experience life.  It was nearly 2:30 before we made it home and of course Brady fell asleep about 20 minutes before we got home.  So even though we didn't get "all" our naps in today, I am so thankful for days like today and allowing myself to just relish in this season of life.

And to top things off, our sweet friends welcome their new baby BOY into the world today!  I am SO excited for them and can't wait to see them 2 short weeks.

So much to praise Him for!!!
