Commenting Challenge: Day 2 and 3

So I realized late last night that I hadn't followed through with this commenting challenge...oops!  Life happens...but I'm here now playing catch-up.

Day 2:  About this blog, why I blog, how I got started, etc...

I started blogging shortly after I got married (summer of 2008).  I had recently quit my job as a sales rep and had lots of free time on my hands.  I also really wanted to learn how to sew so I started looking for sewing/crafting blogs.  Oh my, there are a ton!  My husband was in grad school and so we lived far from family, so I then started blogging as a way for our families to keep up with us.

It has evolved over the years.  I blog for many reasons.  It's a great way to family and friends to keep up with us.  I like to blog about recipes.  It's also like therapy for me in ways.  Sometimes I have my most "ah-ha" moments while blogging.  There are times I use it as an outlet to get out my frustrations and fears I have about this crazy life.

I love to blog about life in general.  Now that I have a baby, I use it as a way to document his milestones and life.  It's mostly about me, my life, and just a bit of random-ness thrown in.  I often think no one ever reads this silly thing, and that I'm just sending my life out into cyber-space but I also hope I can use my blog to help or inspire, which is why often I'll do a post about what God might revealing to me during a certain season in my life.

Day 3:  Social media & other sites

Lately, I've been obsessed with Instagram.  I could NOT wait until they launched the droid version on the app.  I love it and use it all day long!  I'm mrsnancyb if you want to follow me.

I also recently joined Twitter.  I'll admit that I put it off for such a long time because I didn't really understand it and thought it was just ehhh, I don't know.  I don't know why I waited so long because I like it so much better than Facebook. So much better and less clutter than Facebook.  I'm now NancyPants_05

So about Facebook.  I've had Facebook since the dawn of time it seems.  Going on almost 10 years.  I joined back in the day when you had to a college email address to even join.  Oh I miss those days!  I use Facebook to keep up with family and friends, therefore I keep my profile private.  But I do have a business FB page, Honey B. Boutique.

Like many others, I'm a Pinterest junkie!  I mostly use it for recipes and I've found some really great ones that you can see here.

Other sites - For online shopping, I like Zulily, Amazon, Etsy and endless.com for shoes!  Free shipping & your shoes always arrive in 1-2 days!

I do have a Google+ account/profile but I'm not really sure how to use it, other than for photos.  But I do looove me some Google reader.  That's how I read the majority of my blogs.

Commenting blog challenge

I originally sat down to post about our family reunion but then saw this challenge and thought why not.  I'm linking up here for the 3rd annual (my first) commenting challenge.

This blog is one I started on a whim several years ago as a way to document my new life as a new bride.  It evolves all the time, it's mostly just random, light-hearted, and now a way for me to now document my life as a new mom.
 
So about me...I'm Nancy and married to one great guy, Allen.  We've been married for a little over 4 years.  He always makes me laugh!  We recently welcomed a precious baby boy, Brady into this world, in December to be exact.



I live in South Texas where it is insanely hot, humid, and windy!  I also live in a rural community, full of grain and cotton fields.  Formerly a teacher, now a stay at home mom.  I'm a fabric junkie!  A music junkie and a lover of a good, everyday pair of chandelier earrings, ha!  And while I like a clean house, it seems like impossible even though I stay home.

I love college football!  Saturdays in the fall are all about football.  I am a graduate from the greatest university in Texas, Texas A&M.  We bleed maroon at our house!  Yes, we've already started brainwashing our 6 month old.  And we are so excited about being in the best conference ever, the SEC!!!!

But most importantly, I have a heart for Jesus.

Lately...

We've been under the weather this last week.  First, Brady then me.  Thankfully, it rained stormed Thursday so AB was home Thursday and Friday.  Couldn't have been better timing.  He was able to deal with Brady while I slept, whined, and sneezed every 10 minutes.
This never happens.  Meaning B. just falling asleep but a nap but I guess daddy has that special touch because he fell right to sleep with him on Thursday.  So sweet!!!!

So we've had a pretty low-key week.  Yesterday, we did finally venture out to get a sno-cone, a quick lunch (that we ate in a parking lot, ha!), and a stop at H-E-B for a few things for dinner.  B. and I sat in the car while AB ran in.  I'm telling you, we are interesting people.

Today was the first day, since Wednesday that I felt well enough to go out by myself amongst the living.  Ha!  Brady and I went to the bank, picked up a healthy breakfast, and then went to ride with AB for a bit.

Then I came home and cleaned the kitchen and then decided to dirty it up again.  I had bananas that were over-ripe and I had been wanting to try a few of the banana bread recipes I pinned forever ago.  I decided to go with this one and it did not disappoint!

I'm having to resist from going into the kitchen so I don't eat another piece.

During my sickness, I've spent more time in bed and in front of the TV than I have since I had Brady.  Luckily, there have been some pretty decent great movies on.  Here are a few I've watched:
Country Strong - seemed so predictable, but totally threw me off guard at the end.  AB and I actually kind of liked it.
The Smurfs - fell asleep
Something Borrowed - not bad, kept my attention
And these two classics I watched today...


I tivo'ed Eat Pray Love but have yet to watch it.  And this is what Brady did while I indulged in movie-time...
Poor baby still has a runny nose so his little nose is so chapped and red.

Since tropical storm Debbie is supposedly headed our way, daddy will be working round the clock to finish up grain harvest...so we took him an evening drink and snack.

Brady is so busy and is starting to get into everything.  I know he will be crawling soon, which I'm not looking forward too.  We are also going to have to lower his crib mattress very soon.  I was trying to get his picture before bed-time tonight to send to daddy and this is what I got.  Such a little turkey!





He moves so much, I can't even get a decent picture.  Not to mention I really need a new phone.  Well, that pretty much sums up what's been going on around here...not all that exciting but oh my heart is so full!  Thankful for the little blessings like my sweet baby boys' smile and for the hot shower I'm about to take...gotta love motherhood! ;)

God's Perfect Timing

Time is of the essence.  Timing is everything.

I'll be real honest, I've never been good with time.  When AB and I were dating, he would tell me we had to leave 30 minutes before we actually had to leave.  And he knew I probably still wouldn't be on time.  Bless his heart!

Even my mother would get onto me about time, being on time, managing my time.  She would say, "it is incredibly rude to be late!"

I'd like to think I've gotten better over time but it's still not my strong suit.

Yes, while time is important in the physical sense - as in "please be on time!"  I think it's even more important in our spiritual lives.

Because let's face it, our timing and God's timing can be so incredibly different.  We wish, hope, pray for something to happen.  And then we wait.  And wait.  And wait.  Wondering if it will ever happen.

During the waiting period, we often lose sight of what we are waiting for.  We often become discouraged.  Tattered.  Bitter.  Ungrateful.  Disappointed.

Our souls long for an answer, for a break-through, for a place of yes!

But as I've learned in the past, our greatest moments with our Saviour aren't when the prayer is answered, yet it is during the time of waiting.

It is in the waiting, that we have no other choice but to surrender to Him.  It may take a while (like in my case because I'm stubborn) but eventually it will happen.

Because after all, this isn't our life.  Our plans may not be His plans, not because he doesn't want those things for us but because he wants something so much greater for us!  Ephesians 3:20 says that "He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us."


According to his power that is at work within us...during the waiting period is where he is able to work within us.  It is where we are able to truly meet him face to face, surrender our disappointment, time restraints, and self-pity.

Jesus works best within us when we are discouraged, tattered, bitter, ungrateful, and disappointed.  But first we have to surrender so his power can work within us...which means surrendering to his timing, not our own.  Surrendering our plans.  Surrendering our lives.

Surrender means to trust.  Trust him with our lives, our plans, and our thoughts.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Proverbs 3:5-6

This is what I love about him - where we fall short, he does not.  Thankfully, God's timing is always perfect timing.  He is never early or late.

Father's Day 2012

We celebrated Father's day a tad bit early since we were going to be out of town for the weekend.  We were leaving Thursday for our family reunion so that morning we gave AB his gifts.

Brady picked out 2 books for him - Daddy Kisses and When Dads Don't Grow Up (perfect for my "big kid").  One I had to buy because I realized that B. had practically destroyed the back of it by chewing on it, ha!  Daddy also got a new pair of flip flops, a Father's day plaque, and a pair of blue seersucker shorts.  I think AB really enjoyed his first father's day!


B. and I sure do love you!  You are an amazing husband and wonderful daddy!  We are so thankful for you.



Sunday, we had lunch at The Gristmill in Gruene.  Love!  If you are ever in central Texas, you've got to check out Gruene.  We celebrated Father's day there before heading back home.  We sat outside which ended up being great for Brady.  He loved looking at all the trees.

The food was delicious but I was super thirsty and ordered 3 drinks, ha!  The non-alcoholic pina colada was yummy!!

After lunch, we stopped for a few photo ops but that was about it.  We were hot, tired, and so full!  I think we were all ready to get back to home sweet home.

 We had to stop and take a picture in front of the Texas' oldest dance hall.  Brady was too interested in mimi's hat.  But he can say he has now been to Gruene Hall.

 I love the way AB loves and cares for Brady - makes me love him even more!  Happy first Father's Day my love!

Sing me a song...

On the way to our family reunion last week, Brady just started "singing" out of nowhere.  He loves music!  Since he was born, he has had music in his room that plays while he naps and throughout the night.  AB also sings to him all the time. 

I thought it was too cute not to share!  B. making his singing debut, ha! ;)

6 Months

Brady, you turned SIX months old on Saturday!  Half a year old...I can't believe it.

Here is what you are up too...

-You weigh 16lbs
-You are about 25 inches long
-You are still nurse, you eat about every 4 hours
-You wear size 3 diapers
-You wear 6-9m clothes

You have started eating rice cereal and so far we have tried carrots and peas.  You love carrots, you could take or leave peas.  You normally eat a vegetable (1oz) with cereal for breakfast and then 2oz of veggies with cereal for dinner.  We also tried teething biscuits for the first time almost 2 weeks ago.  You loved it!  Mommy not so much, too messy!



A typical day for you is you get up around 8am, eat breakfast, play for a bit then you are ready for a nap about an hour and half after waking up.  You nap for about an hour then up again to eat, play, and then you MIGHT take another nap in the afternoon.  I try to get you to take another nap late afternoon, but I'm not always successful.  Around 7pm, we either go for a walk or maybe go for a swim if daddy is home.  Just before 8pm, we will feed you carrots or peas with cereal then it's time for a bath.


You still love bath time!  Totally relaxes you.  After bath, daddy may read you a book or sing you a song but really all you want is mommy.  I nurse you and anywhere between 9 and 9:30 you drift off to sleep.

I wish I could say you are a great sleeper but that's just not the case.  There for a while you would fight, scream, cry during nap-time.  Practically refusing to take a nap.all.day.long.  Those were really long days!  But thankfully, it seems we have turned a corner and you are back to napping twice a day.  As far as sleeping through the night, you have ONCE!  And by sleeping through the night, I'm talking a 6 hour stretch.  Typically at night you wake up usually between 1 and 2am, nurse and go right back to sleep.  You then wake up again to nurse somewhere around 5 or 6, back to sleep until 8.  Sometimes I put you in bed with me and you'll sleep another hour or so.

You have the sweetest, funniest personality!!!  I think you are going to be such a funny little boy!  But you also have a very inquisitive side.  You love to study things/people.  I can't wait to see where your little personality takes you.  I love all the different faces you make and just think you are too funny!  You also love to talk.  We are afraid once you start talking, you aren't going to stop.  Just like your momma, daddy says ;)  Sometimes you will just talk to us like you are really telling us something.  Oh, we could just eat you up!!


During the day, you like to play in the exersaucer, the jumperoo, and on the floor.  But you still would rather be held :)  As soon as I put you on the floor, you immediately roll over and start scooting your way around.  I know it won't be long before you on the move!  Mommy and daddy are not ready for that...I also put you on the play mat and come back to find you no where near the mat.


You have gotten so much better in the car.  You actually like getting out and about, which I am so thankful for.  As long as you have a paci, the car is a-ok!  Sometimes you get your best naps while we are out running around.

People are always amazed at what a good baby you are.  Daddy jokes about how you are so good in public, but a little toot at home.  You love to smile at people when they talk to you and compliment on your beautiful blue eyes.





Brady, we can't imagine life without you!  You bring us so much joy and happiness!!  Just when I think I can't love you anymore, you do something that makes me love you even more.  I think this is such a fun stage.  I love watching you grow and explore this big ol' world.  These past six months have been the best months of our lives.  We pray that you will grow up to be confident, have a heart for Jesus, and that you will be accomplish great things!  There are days I still can't believe that God gave us you, our sweet precious angel.  Momma and daddy love you more than life itself!


Happy half birthday sweet baby boy!
